Meet Shayla
Shayla E. Lee, a Jacksonville, Florida native, has carved a multifaceted career path deeply rooted in her commitment to law and advocacy. Her journey commenced at Stanton College Preparatory before she pursued a Mass Media Arts degree at Clark Atlanta University, majoring in Public Relations. Eager to deepen her legal acumen, she earned a Juris Doctor from the Florida Coastal School of Law.
During her tenure at law school, Shayla immersed herself in various extracurriculars, serving as Vice President of the Human Rights Society, engaging in the Wrongful Convictions Clinic, and supporting the Lawyering Process Class as a teacher’s assistant. Additionally, she interned at Children’s Legal Services in Jacksonville, honing her passion for aiding children in need.
Her professional trajectory began in child dependency law, where she championed for children's rights and family stability as part of the Guardian ad Litem’s legal
team and later at Children’s Legal Services. Transitioning to the Office of the Public Defender in the Fourth Judicial Circuit, Shayla defended juveniles in delinquency court and led the charge in juvenile specialty courts like Girls Court and Crossover Court in Duval County. This experience broadened her expertise in dependency law alongside criminal defense.
Shayla’s legal repertoire expanded further at Epstein & Robbins in private practice, where she defended adults in a range of cases from DUIs to violent crimes. Driven by her commitment to public service, she returned to the Public Defender’s office to handle felony cases in circuit court.
A member of the Florida Bar, Jacksonville Bar, and the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Shayla Lee balances her professional pursuits with a vibrant family life in Jacksonville. She resides with her husband and two daughters, actively participating in her community through church volunteering, cherishing moments with loved ones, and finding solace in cooking.
